hair care tips from Elle J Hairdresssers

2020 hair care tips that apply to us all

We talk a lot about hair care in our articles. Australia has one of the harshest climates in the world and because your hair is closer to the sky than any other part of your body, it’s going to be the most affected.

More often than not we try to be quite specific about your hair type and offer our advice accordingly. It may surprise you to know that, in many ways, the best way to take care of your hair is also the best way to take care of your health. We stock some amazing products here at Elle J and we only stock products that we absolutely believe in. Our 2020 Elle J Hair Salon promotion, is offering some great discounts on many of our products. But products aside for now, some of our suggestions are just good common sense that will benefit more than just your hair.

Healthy looking people nearly always have healthy looking hair. A good healthy diet not only nourishes your body but it’s great for your hair as well. All the good stuff like fish, greens, legumes and grains are full of iron and protein. They will help to keep your hair bouncy, alive and vital.

The term “pulling out my hair” refers to our reactions to frustration and stress. It may be part of the vernacular that we no longer take literally, but it’s not that far from the truth. Stress, worry and frustration all wear us down in different ways. For some people stress changes the chemistry of hair follicles – too many hair follicles going into a “resting phase” at the same time. To reverse progressive hair loss and revert back to a more healthy cycle, it’s important to supplement deficiencies in the body with vitamin B12, iron and folic acid.

Don’t apply heat unnecessarily to your hair. If you have damaged hair, you shouldn’t use a hair dryer unless it’s absolutely necessary. The same applies to hair straighteners and curlers. They are to be especially avoided if you are aiming for dry damaged hair repair

Good skin care and hair care go hand in hand. Staying out of the sun in the hottest times of the day will protect your hair from inevitable damage. The same principles that apply to skin care apply to hair care. Keep your hair under a hat or scarf.

Hair oil keeps your hair in good health in the same way that moisturisers nourish your skin. A good quality hair oil will maintain the shine in your hair, keep your scalp dry and absorb into your follicles which is one of the most effective ways to prevent hair loss. It is just as important to keep the skin on the top of your head in as healthy a condition as the rest of your body.

It’s important that you don’t lose the essential oils in your hair. Wash your hair less often and when you do, use a mild shampoo.

At Elle J we avoid using chemicals to colour your hair and we suggest that if you colour your hair at home then you should avoid chemical based products as well. Chemical hair colours are ammonia based and therefore harsh on your hair and scalp. Nor are they good for the environment.

We know we said that we weren’t going to focus so much on products and more on generic solutions but if there is one treatment that encompasses all of the problems we have with our hair then we thoroughly recommend Agi one smoothing treatment. To source Agi one soothing treatment in Sydney drop into the salon, email or call. We would be happy to talk you through the benefits.

In summary, AGI ONE’s unique technology smooths and conditions hair by releasing a nanoparticle into the hair shaft to repair hair from the inside out. At the same time as the repair is taking place, the nanoparticle is forming a protective film around the hair shaft as a preventer of further damage. This results in frizz reduction, protection, hydration and incredible shine to the hair.
