Hair Breakage and Fall Out – Causes and What to Do to Help

Hair breakage is a fairly common hair concern and has many different causes. Healthy hair
depends on an inner cuticle with overlapping scales that keep your strands together. When
these scales fall apart, your hair can get dry and eventually separate, leading to damage. This
causes breakage, along with other symptoms, such as frizz and dryness.

If your hair is lacking hydration, your hair is much more prone to breakage, so you need to
ensure you’re giving your strands the love they deserve. Using the right at home care is crucial
in maintaining your hair hydration levels. Drinking water is also an integral component of helping
keep hair breakage at bay. A hair shaft is made up of one third water, which needs to be
replenished regularly to grow new hair cells.

Stress, as we know, plays havoc with our bodies, and our hair is no exception. We understand it
can be hard to control stress at times, but we highly suggest to our clients to focus on self care
as a way of giving back to themselves, and hopefully reducing their stress levels, also.
Over brushing/combing or over styling your hair can also cause hair breakage if your hair is
already weak and damaged. Make sure you used wide-tooth combs to prevent breakage. You
should also only use a brush for when your hair is dry, and avoid using plastic bristles. Try a
brush with natural bristles instead.

And lastly, relaxers, professional straightening, and colouring can all make your hair seem like
it’s healthier than what it is. As mentioned, your at-home hair care routine is just as important as
what services you have in the salon. We will also consult you on the best time frames for your
colour, to ensure that we are not overexposing and over-processing your hair, avoiding any hair
damage.
