Thin Hair and How to Make it Look Thicker

Thin hair and how to make it look thicker

Lets face it, no one wants thin, limp hair. We see so many clients throughout our salon, and a relatively common hair concern is thin hair. We also see how much this can affect your self esteem and we want to help! We have a number of suggestions to help your hair appear thicker and fuller.

Thicker hair can begin in the shower. The right shampoo for fine hair should add body and bounce, so look for descriptions like “volumising,” “thickening,” or “lightweight” on the label. We highly recommend the Kerastase Bain Densite range. This daily shampoo is designed for hair fiber experiencing loss of density. Bain Densité strengthens the hair at the fiber and awakens dormant follicles to give more texture, substance and resilience to the hair. Body and bounce are restored for hair that appears visibly fuller and thicker-looking.

And forget what you’ve been told about dirty hair being the secret to volume. Not only does washing your hair help to keep your scalp healthy to support hair growth, but it also removes excess oils at the roots. This is especially important for fine or thinning hair, as it easily gets weighed down. Plus, infrequent shampooing can also lead to a flaky scalp which can exacerbate hair loss.

Hair breakage is the worst, especially when you have thin, fine hair. As your hair breaks off, your mid-lengths and ends become even thinner, so we highly suggest using a hair mask or deep conditioner to prevent that from happening. Do it as a pre-shampoo treatment, and you won’t run the risk of weighing down your hair. One of our salon favourites for thin hair is Kerastase Masquintense Fine Hair.

Having your hair cut so that it is all one length and having quite a blunt finish, will give the illusion that your fine hair is thicker and fuller. This is a simple, yet effective and cost effective strategy for your hair that you can try immediately. This is also one of 2020s top hair trends, so it’s a win win, we say!

And did you know you can actually make your hair look thicker just with colour? Colour can transform fine hair if you choose the right shade and dimension. It is best to avoid all over light blonde shades that make the hair appear more translucent. Stick to multi-textured highlights and darker shades of blonde on the hairline which is often the finest hair.”

And if you are really wanting to thicken your hair after trying these other options, quality hair extensions might be the right solution for you, as they do transform your hair. They are a fast way to add texture, volume, length and the fullness you have always wanted, and are perfect for anyone with thin or fine hair.
